Miji Yoon(b.1989) has been living and working in France since 2012. She often reflects on the unique relationship between nature and human beings. Initially dreaming of settling in Tokyo, her trajectory was disrupted by the earthquake that struck the Pacific part of Tohoku in 2011, leading her to arrive in France. Subsequently, she had the opportunity to participate in the Tadashi Kawamata's exhibition on this earthquake, titled "Under the Water", at the Pompidou Center in Metz. This series of coincidental events made her believe that life sculpts us and guided her towards a new turning point in her life, leading her into the world of art.
Her initial interest was to photograph these traces, and her work has evolved in a more and more multidisciplinary and experimental way. Beyond mere reproduction, she strives to create a temporary hybrid landscape. Since 2016, she has been practicing various artistic genres such as photography, video, and drawing, with a particular interest in site-specific installation.
Miji Yoon(née en 1989) vit et travaille en France depuis 2012. Elle s’interroge souvent sur la relation étrange entre la nature et les êtres humains. Initialement, rêvant de s’installer à Tokyo, son parcours a été bouleversé par le tremblement de terre qui a frappé la partie Pacifique du Tohoku en 2011, l’amenant à arriver en France. C’est là qu’elle a eu l’opportunité de participer au montage de l’exposition de Tadashi Kawamata sur ce séisme, intitulée “Under the Water”, au Centre Pompidou de Metz. Cette série d’événements coïncidents l’a fait croire que la vie nous sculpte et l’a guidée vers un nouveau tournant dans sa vie, la conduisant vers le monde de l’art.
Son intérêt était tout d’abord de photographier ces vestiges, puis son travail s’est développé de manière de plus en plus multidisciplinaire et expérimentale. Plus qu’une simple reproduction, elle tente de créer un paysage hybride temporaire. Depuis 2016, elle pratique différents genres artistiques tels que la photographie, la vidéo et le dessin, avec un intérêt particulier pour l’installation in-situ.
