BAE Seungjoo(b.1995)’s major source of inspiration is the human body. She work on it through two different axes. First the body as a tool of social identification, but also the body as a means to experience, grasp and understand the world with physical sensations. As Barbara Kruger has quoted, “’Your body is a battleground’, our body is for her the first battleground where one’s own perception, the gaze of others and social ideology intersect, and sometimes crash and mix. It is both a space of intimacy and a public space exposed to the world.
As a result, experimenting is a big part of her artistic production. What is important, is to live the moment of discovery, and also to value the feelings aroused such as hesitation, desire, disruption in front of the image of his body and that projected by the other. For her, these are elements that make the body a thinking subject and active as such.
La principale source d’inspiration de BAE Seungjoo(née en 1995) est le corps humain. Elle y travaille dessus via deux axes diérents. D’abord le corps comme outil d’identification sociale, mais aussi le corps comme moyen d’expérimenter, de saisir et de comprendre le monde avec des sensations physiques. Comme Barbara Kruger a cité, « Your body is a battleground », le corps est pour l’artiste le premier rang de bataille où sa propre perception, le regard d’autrui et l’idéologie sociale se croisent, et parfois, se heurtent et se mêlent. C’est à la fois un espace d’intimité et un espace public exposé au monde. »
En conséquence, le fait d’expérimenter fait grandement parti de sa production artistique. Ce qui est important, c’est de vivre le moment de découverte, et aussi de valoriser les sentiments suscités tels que l’hésitation, le désir, le bouleversement face à l’image de son corps et celle projetée par autrui. Pour l’artiste, ce sont des éléments qui rendent le corps comme un sujet pensant et actif en tant que tel.
