The artistic practice of WOO Cheyon(b.1994) begins with her interest in sociology and social context. The central question she would like to address through her work is as follows: How does the artist, as an individual, position themselves in society, and how does artistic creation interact with a social context? Drawing inspiration from a phrase in Annie Ernaux's work, "Les années" ("The Years"): "Capture the reflection projected onto the screen of individual memory by collective history." She aims to depict individuals in a reflection, that of history and society, implementing a study of her sociological interest as a plastic work. Her work is based on reproducing realistic fragments often encountered in real life.
She becomes both the object and the subject of the situations that present themselves to her. Initially, she approaches an experience, a personal story, a political situation, a social phenomenon—things that people generally find relatively mundane and obvious in everyday life. La pratique artistique de WOO Cheyon(née en 1994) commence par son intérêt pour la sociologie et le contexte social. La grande question qu’elle aimerait bien poser par son travail est la suivante: Comment l’artiste en tant qu’individu se positionne dans la société et comment la création artistique s’articule avec un contexte social. Comme une phrase de l’ouvrage d’Annie Ernaux, Les année : « Capter le reflet projeté sur l’écran de la mémoire individuelle par l’histoire collec- tive ». Elle aimerait bien faire apparaître des individus sur un reflet, celui de l’histoire et de la société, en mettant en œuvre une étude de son intérêt sociologique en tant que travail plastique. Son travail se base sur une reproduction du fragment réaliste que l’on rencontre souvent dans la vraie vie.
